They are private companies in the business of making money, if they could run trains they would be running them but they are dependent on what coverage NR can offer and like when there is a tube strike, they can cover some lines but not others.
It's just another case of public sector workers holding a gun to our heads.
B - That 1500 is when the last one is leaving Newcastle so you'll be fine.

This isn't actually anything to do with the train operating companies like Virgin, it's Network Rail which is basically a public company and to think, people actually want the whole system in the public hands.
